1) Electrician in Staunton for Fault Finding, EICRs and Storage Heaters

Only last week I was called to a property in Boundary Place, Staunton, where a storage heater had stopped working. After carrying out some fault finding, I established that the heater itself needed replacing. I sourced a suitable modern replacement for the room, arranged delivery to the property and returned to install it safely.

That type of work is common for me around Staunton. I’m Darren from DMC Electrical, with more than 20 years’ electrical experience. I’m NICEIC registered, DMC Electrical is a Which? Trusted Trader, and I carry out work for homeowners and landlords throughout Staunton and towards Hartpury, Corse, Maisemore and Redmarley.

If you need an electrician in Staunton, I can help with electrical fault finding, EICRs, storage-heater repairs and replacement, bathroom extractor fans and other electrical improvements. I aim to respond on the same day, turn up when arranged and keep your home clean and tidy while I’m working.

2)  Electrical work I carry out around Staunton

Staunton has quite a varied mix of properties.

Away from the centre there are cottages and larger detached homes spread along lanes towards Hartpury, Corse, Maisemore and Redmarley. In the central part of Staunton there are also smaller estates of semi-detached and terraced properties, including homes built from around the 1950s onwards.

That mixture means I come across electrical installations of very different ages.

Some customers need a straightforward replacement fan or heater. Others call because an older installation has developed a fault and they need someone to work out what is actually causing it.

My regular work locally includes:

2.0.1) Storage heater fault finding and replacement

Storage heaters are one of the jobs I’m regularly asked about in Staunton.

If a heater stops producing heat, I don’t automatically assume the complete heater needs replacing. I first work through the fault to establish whether the problem is with the electrical supply, controls or the heater itself.

At the recent Boundary Place job, testing showed that replacement was the sensible solution.

I then sourced a heater suitable for the room it needed to heat, arranged for it to be delivered directly to the property and fitted it when everything was ready.

I have also installed an additional storage heater at a property in Compton Close. The hallway had never had a heater and had always been a particularly cold part of the house.

The new heater was delivered to site and, when the customer was ready, I returned to install it.

That is the advantage of assessing the property rather than simply ordering a heater based on the size of the old one. The room, available supply and how the area is used all need to be considered.

2.0.2) EICRs for landlords and homeowners

I also regularly carry out Electrical Installation Condition Reports around Staunton.

Over the last few months I’ve completed several jobs at Compton Close, including an EICR for a landlord because five years had passed since the previous inspection.

An EICR involves inspecting and testing the fixed electrical installation and recording its condition.

In this case there were some minor items to deal with afterwards, including work involving smoke alarms and lighting.

For landlords, an EICR provides a formal record of the condition of the electrical installation. For homeowners, it can also be useful where the age or condition of an installation is uncertain, or before significant improvement work is planned.

If anything requiring attention is identified, I explain what I have found and can provide a quotation for the work rather than leaving you with a report full of electrical terminology and no idea what to do next.

2.0.3) Fault finding on electrical installations

Fault finding is one of the most common reasons people contact me when they are searching for an electrician in Staunton.

A circuit may keep tripping, a light might stop working or an electrical appliance or heater may suddenly fail.

The important part is establishing whether the fault is in the appliance, accessory, circuit or electrical supply.

I work through the problem logically, carrying out electrical tests and narrowing down the cause rather than simply changing components and hoping the fault disappears.

That is particularly useful in older properties where electrical work may have been altered or added to over many years.

2.0.4) Damp bathrooms and extractor fans

Damp bathrooms are another issue I come across locally.

If a bathroom does not have suitable extraction, steam can remain in the room after showering and contribute to condensation.

I can assess the bathroom, work out a practical route for the electrical supply and extraction, and supply and fit a suitable bathroom extractor fan.

The best solution depends on the room, where the bath or shower is positioned and where the extracted air can be taken outside.

I prefer to look at the complete installation rather than simply fitting whatever fan happens to fit the existing opening.

2.0.5) Replacing old security lighting

Outside and security lighting is useful around many Staunton properties, particularly detached homes and cottages set back from the road or approached along darker lanes and driveways.

Older security lights eventually fail or become unreliable.

I can replace old fittings, check the existing electrical supply and install a suitable replacement so entrances, driveways and outside areas are properly illuminated when needed.
