1) Electrician in Lydbrook for Renovations, EICRs and Electrical Upgrades
Recently I helped a customer who had bought a property at auction in Upper Lydbrook and was preparing for a major renovation and rebuild. Before the main work could really get started, he needed a small, safe electrical supply on site, so I installed a temporary mini consumer unit and the circuits needed to provide power while the renovation progressed.
That is a good example of the work I regularly carry out around Lydbrook. I’m often involved with properties that are being renovated gradually, where new electrical equipment is being added to older circuits or where the existing installation needs to be checked and upgraded before further work can go ahead.
I’m Darren from DMC Electrical. I have more than 20 years’ electrical experience, I’m NICEIC registered and DMC Electrical is a Which? Trusted Trader. If you need an electrician in Lydbrook, I carry out both the quotation and the work myself, keep the property clean and tidy and aim to respond to enquiries on the same day.
Back to top2) Electrical work around Lydbrook is rarely all the same
Lydbrook has a particularly varied mix of properties.
Up on the hills there are plenty of individual detached houses, many designed or altered around their owners’ requirements. Access can sometimes be interesting too, with properties reached by steep drives and hillside roads.
Down towards the valley there are more older terraced properties, while the village has also expanded out from the central High Street towards housing areas such as Joys Green and Worrall Hill.
I also work in nearby Brierley, Ruardean and Drybrook.
Because the properties vary so much, the electrical work does too. One week I might be setting up a temporary supply for a major renovation, while another job involves testing a holiday let, fitting an extractor fan or improving the protection on existing circuits.
Back to top3) Supporting home renovations from the early stages
Renovation work is one of the most common reasons people contact me in Lydbrook.
The recent Upper Lydbrook auction property is a good example. The house required major renovation and rebuilding, but before the customer could progress with everything else he needed a practical electrical supply on site.
I installed a small temporary consumer unit and the necessary circuit and cabling so work could begin safely.
I also have customers on New Road, Hangerberry Hill, who bought their house within the last year and are renovating it gradually. I’ve been supporting them with a number of smaller electrical jobs as different parts of the property are tackled.
That type of ongoing relationship works well on renovation projects. Not every electrical decision has to be made on day one. I can look at what you are doing now while also considering how it may affect the next stage of the project.
Back to top4) Adding new electrical equipment to an older installation
Renovating a property often means adding equipment that was never part of the original electrical installation.
That could be a new bathroom fan, kitchen appliance, additional sockets or another new electrical load.
Recently in Camomile Green I installed the circuit and cabling required for a new bathroom extractor fan.
Before adding something new, I consider the existing circuit and the protection already provided. Depending on the work involved, that can include looking at RCD protection, earthing and bonding and making sure the existing electrical installation is suitable for what is being added.
The aim is not simply to get the new appliance working. It needs to become a properly considered part of the installation.
Back to top5) Consumer unit changes and modern electrical protection
I also carry out consumer unit upgrades where the existing board and protective arrangements need improving.
An older consumer unit does not automatically require replacement simply because of its age. I look at what protection is already provided, the condition of the installation and what you are planning to add or change.
When properties are being renovated, this becomes particularly relevant.
New electrical equipment can place different demands on an older installation, and modern protective devices can also reveal existing faults that were not as obvious with older equipment.
That is why testing and assessing what is already there is an important part of planning an upgrade.
Back to top6) EICRs in Lydbrook
I carry out Electrical Installation Condition Reports for homeowners, landlords, holiday-let owners and people involved in property sales.
A couple of weeks ago I completed an EICR at a holiday let on Hangerberry Hill.
I also recently carried out an EICR at a property in Church Road that was being sold. The solicitor had requested an electrical report before a completion date could be agreed.
An EICR involves inspecting and testing the fixed electrical installation and recording its condition.
It can highlight issues with existing circuits, protective devices, earthing arrangements and other parts of the installation that may require attention.
For somebody buying or renovating an older property, knowing what you already have can make it much easier to plan where the electrical budget needs to go.
Back to top7) Fault finding on older circuits
Fault finding is another regular part of my work as an electrician in Lydbrook.
Older properties may have had electrical circuits altered and extended at different times. A fault might therefore be caused by the original wiring, something that was added years later, an accessory or a piece of electrical equipment.
If a circuit is tripping or something has stopped working, I test and work through the installation methodically to narrow down the cause.
I would rather identify the actual fault than start changing components unnecessarily.
If testing identifies further work, I explain what I’ve found and discuss the available options before moving ahead.
Back to top8) What happens when you contact DMC Electrical?
When you get in touch, either Kate or I will take some initial information about what you need.
Where the work needs to be inspected before it can be priced properly, I arrange a convenient time to visit.
I carry out my own quotations, so the person who discusses the electrical work with you is also the electrician who returns to complete it.
My pricing for smaller electrical jobs starts from £95, with larger jobs and renovation work quoted according to the scope involved.
I aim to give a same-day response, turn up when I say I will and keep the working area clean and tidy.
Back to top9) Why homeowners and landlords in Lydbrook use DMC Electrical
I’m NICEIC registered and DMC Electrical is a Which? Trusted Trader. We currently have 15 Google reviews, two Which? Trusted Trader reviews and further customer feedback on Facebook.
Being a Which? Trusted Trader also gives customers the added reassurance of an independently monitored scheme and access to its resolution process, alongside the guarantee I provide for my own workmanship.
For me, the biggest difference is that customers deal directly with me.
I quote the work myself and carry it out myself. That is particularly useful on renovations where ideas and requirements can develop as the work progresses.
Whether you need an electrician in Lydbrook for one small alteration or somebody to support the electrical side of a longer renovation, I’m happy to discuss the job and work out a sensible way forward.
